WOW!!!
Just seventeen days until the big event. 17 days :)
My cold has let up a lot and I am now back to running. My weekly mileage has not been what I want it to be but at least I am still, "out there".
The weather has been fairly decent. Just down in the high 30 at nights most of the time.
I can time my runs around the little bit of rain we have for now. Shirley does not call it rain but I call one little drop of water rain :)
Winter is on its way and the Widgens and other winter ducks are in the Strait.
I tried too run on Monday but could only do about 2.5 miles due to my cold. So I took the rest of the week off and did not run again until Thursday.
I ran 4 miles in 47 minutes and 27 seconds and felt great. That is with my usual pace of 10 minutes jogging and 5 minutes walking :)
And then I finished up the week with a 10 mile run on Thursday and a 6 mile run on Saturday. I helped Phil with his RV furnace and then I ran on my treadmill for 1 hour and 33 minutes and 11 seconds. Boy it is hard for me to run on the treadmill for that long of a time. I don't know how others do several hours on the crazy thing.
It is too hard for me. I would rather be outside in the weather running for 3 hours then on the treadmill for five minutes.
Oh well, to each his own.

MONDAY OCTOBER 22, 2012
My cold has not left and I am still feeling the effects on it in my running. I was thinking about how life is so much like long distance training and running. On short runs the body can get by with the distance because it does not put any pressure on it from the shorter effort. And so it is with life. Do only what is required and one can get by. Life goes on and it is OK.
But put a little more distance in say like 30 mile run once in a while and one finds out in a hurry that there is more to running than just a little effort and that is all there is to it. And also in life if we put ourselves out for much more effort it also will take a bit more energy and planning for the work that is involved. Whether it is manual labor or serving others we find out in a hurry what our security level is!!
So, back to running.
I ran 30 miles last Monday in 6 hours and 55 minutes. I think that I put out too much effort for the training run and paid for it. Same in life, I think we call it burn out. I did not run again until Thursday. It was a 4 mile day and I did OK again until the next day and my cold and the training caught up with me and I ran only 2 miles on Saturday.
My total for the week:
Monday 30.26 miles
Thursday 4.4 miles
Saturday 2.0 miles
36.0
Total since June 1, 2012 778.25

Well, we finally got some rain!!!!!! But so far it has not hindered my running.
I have not been getting up at 7:00 a.m. because it is getting colder in the mornings and also I am a wimp.
The dogs were Tired after my run also.
My Monday morning 30 mile runs have been pretty steady. I have run 4 of these long distance runs. This last Monday I ran 15.4 miles and then on Wednesday I ran 30.5 miles. Then Friday was a 12 mile day. But the running caught up in my mind and body. Saturday was going to be a 6 mile day but I ended up walking only 2.5 miles. Oh well, 2 days of rest and then on Monday a 30 miler.
It is interesting how I have a developed a 10 minute run and 5 minute walking routine. My mind/body has accepted this pattern and I am now very comfortable in it.
When I am out running for about two hours I just shift into this natural feeling or schedule and just continue on in my routine.
I struggled a couple of times in my 30 mile run. Once at about mile 12 and 13 I had to walk a ways and get my composure back again and then it hit me again at about mile 23. It is hard too get through those moments but I just kept on and on until I could run my 10 minute run again.
This particular 30 mile loop is a hilly course and it seems that it takes some out of me for a while. This is the first part of my 80 run also. :) :)
Shirley has been very helpful in making sure that I am getting the right amount of
nutrition. In fact she goes out of her way to make sure of this. She is a wonderful wife, and companion.
On my last run I saw three dead snakes on the road and two flattened out birds, and at least a half a dozen dead slugs. Oh, and a couple of live deer watching me and saying to themselves , "There he goes again. What a handsome and bright fellow!"
Well it is time to stop this.
Daily runs:
Monday 15.4
Wednesday 30.5
Friday 12.0
Saturday 2.5
Total 60.4

Cold bug finally got me!!!!!
SUNDAY OCTOBER 7, 2012
Ran only two days this last week. I came down with a fever and a cold that I am trying to get over.
I ran 10 miles on Monday and 4 miles on Thursday. I felt bad on Tuesday and Wednesday but better on Thursday and decided to run 4 miles. I was OK but I should not have run any after Monday. Oh well, I will see how I feel on Monday the 8th and run then.
This is my first cold or incident that I have encountered since I started my training last January for my run. I guess the cold bug finally caught me.
So my total weekly miles for the week of October 1-6 is 14 miles.

Another long week of running.
I ran 30.01 miles on Monday
12 on Tuesday
4 on Thursday
11.2 on Friday
6.04 on Saturday
for a total of 63.25
You noticed that I have counted down to the tenths and 100 rds in my mileage. It is getting to be a long grind. But I am hanging in there.
I did not run today on Oct,. 2 because I am coming down with a cold and have decided not to run until Thursday.
I ran my 30 miles in 7 hours and 19 minutes. I am staying at about 4 and 1/4 miles per hour. This is a little too fast for the 80 mile run so when I do run the 80 I will try to stay at 3.75 to 4.0 miles per hour.
I am now running for 10 minutes and walking 5 five minutes. At this pace I can average 4.25 miles per hour.
I have made up my mind on the routes. I will run a loop route of 30 miles and then a out 15 miles and back 15 miles= 60 miles. Then out 10 miles and 10 back for a total of 80!!!!!!!!
The count down is now 43 days until November 14.
Then it will be starting at 9:00 am
NOW NEWS OF THE RUN OF THE YEAR. By sport writer CTM
At precisely 8:19.36 am on September 30, Kim Henrie started her Centennial Trail Marathon.
I started my reporting of her progress at about 16 miles. She was running along at her usual pace and was looking great!!!
I stayed with her for several minutes and she was in good spirits but tired from running up a gradual grade for three miles to the turn around at 13.1 miles. It was a sunny warm day. She was eating and drinking thanks to her aid person husband Dick. I did have a chance too see her again until about mile 24. Then,,,
This is time when most people who are in a race dread. It is called, "HITTING THE WALL". Or another term is, "BONKING". It all adds up to feeling like the world is closing around you. Please don't feel sorry for me or try to cheer me up. This is the time when you are just in yourself and please leave me alone!!!!!
And you fell like you just cannot go another step. But, but somehow you still keep going on and on and on regardless of the feeling. And then joy upon joy.....
AND SOON THE END!!!!
Kim, you did a great job for you marathon.
Now back to my training.
