I am having trouble with a virus. I don't know how or when it came to my computor but it came. I had to load an anti-virus on my hard drive to control it.
But on to my training.
I ran just 11 miles on Monday, July 23 and then 2 miles on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. I ran some intervals for the two days and each evening I did several 3 and 4 step runups in pole vaulting for that event on Saturday. And nothing for the rest of the events.
Is there anyone else out there doing this kind of training???
The National Senior Games (50 and up) for the state of Washington was held at the Tumwater High School Stadium. Olympia, WA.
I entered in 6 events. Pole Vault, High Jump, Long Jump, Standing Long Jump, 50 meters and 100 meters.
My long distance training did not seem to hinder my track events.
The results for my age division. 80 to 84 age division:
I am 79 but since my 80th birthday is in November they count the age as 80 for the year..
Pole vault 7'
Long Jump 10' 5.5"
High Jump 3' 7"
Standing Long Jump 5' 8 1/4"
100 Meter 19.86
50 Meter 9.71
Not bad results from my long distance training and hardly none for the track events. I was very happy with the results, especially the Pole Vault height.

My training for the last week has been reduced because of ill defined circumstances.
Monday I was at Easton, WA to be the Chairman of a Church Senior Citizen Retreat. I ran 4 miles Monday afternoon at about 2:00 pm. 85 degrees!!!!! It was a hot run but I managed to finish.
Tuesday I did not run. I came home in the afternoon. I ran 6 miles on Wednesday at home.
Then on Friday it was raining hard at 5:00 am. I got up and eat breakfast but the rain did not let up so I did the right thing and went back to bed. Later in the day I ran a 20 mile loop course starting and finishing at home. It took me 4 hours and 17 minutes. I ran 15 minutes and walked 5 minutes for the training run. It was a good training run. I felt good about it.
Today, Saturday I ran just 2 miles.
During the past week the Native Americans were embarking on a "Canoe Journey" that started with all of the villages on the coast of Washington, Vancouver Island, British Columbia and Puget Sound. These tribes 'PULLED' or paddled their canoes across and in the Straits of Jaun de Fuca to the beach in Sequim that used to be the place where the Jameston Indian Village was supposedly located. It is about .2 a mile from our house. Here are some pictures that I took of the event.

My goodness I was so busy last week that I forgot to write about my weekly training.
I ran 2 miles on Monday, 4 miles on Tuesday and 6 miles on Wednesday. The usual day off on Thursday. And then 10 miles on Friday and 8 miles on Saturday. I did yard work at home and then mowed the big field, (my extra income job),
It has been decent weather. Some rain at nights and great sun during the day.
My garden is growing especially the weeds. But I work on it a little while during the day and try to keep ahead of them.
Sunset on the clouds the other night.

Another week has gone by. My oh my were does the time go.
I had a lot of fun this past week. Went to a fourth of July party, of course on the 4th. Then Pole vaulted Saturday morning. Then went to visit my granddaughter Melissa and Brion and the 3 great grandchildren. I wore myself out and am still trying to recover from all of the action.
I will try to send some pictures of the pole vaulting that Philip and I did on Saturday. I didn't do too bad considering that I practiced about a half a dozen 3 step drills before I vaulted. I vaulted 6 ft. 1 inch. Philip did great. He won the masters set that I was in with him and about 10 other vaulters. I was the oldest vaulter there at the age of 79. Philip vaulted 11 ft 1 inch.
This is me clearing 6 ft. 1 inch
This is Philip clearing11 ft. 1 inch
But back to my training for the 80 miler. I ran 2 miles on Monday, 4 miles on Tuesday and Wednesday 6 miles. On Friday I will run10 miles and Saturday 8.
I am starting to do some small increments of weight lifting, sit ups and pull ups to help my upper body strength.
Sooooo.....
Continues until Saturday evening.

Not much running this week. I am going to pole vault at Alki Beach in Seattle on Saturday July 7. This year there are 4 guys in their 70's. Fred Z. 70, David B. 71, Gerrard old, (He is 77), and me Chuck M 79. Philip is in the same group. I don't know what they will do for awards. There are two younger guys, Philip 60 and Dan ? 55. So we will see what happens. The older guys are jumping at about 7 ft. to 8 ft. It should be a great day for the event. Pole vaulting at Alki beach is put on by the University of Washington. GOOOOOOO DAWGS!!!!
I ran two miles on Monday, 4 miles on Tuesday and 2 miles on Wednesday.
I am resting up for the Saturday event. :)
I weeded my garden and prepared the soil around the fence to plant flowers. It is getting late in the summer but they will do OK. We have a long fall growing season here.
The two Poms, Maggie and Joy, made it through the 4th of July fireworks OK.
This Rosaura with Maggie, Joy with her back to us and Bella.
We gave them some tranquilizers and they are fine today. Boy, what a display of fireworks here on the Jamestown beach road. The blasting starts anytime during the day and last until midnight. The fireworks are spectacular!!!
