Ran the Port Angeles Memorial Day 10 K fun run today. I ran my fastest time for this 10K course in a long time. 64 minutes and 48 seconds. That is 10 minutes and 27 seconds per mile. It was 50 to 55 degrees when we started. A little sprinkle and wind blowing in our faces at the 3.1 turn around. The director just gave awards to 51 years and up. :( :( . I missed placing by 2 minutes and 20 seconds.
It was a great day. Met some of my friends at the race. Several people from church ran today also. It was a low mileage for last week. I ran 25 miles for the week.
This will be another low mileage week in prep for the Marathon next Sunday.
Then I will take it easy for the next week and then back to the ultra long distance training schedule again. 5 months until the 80 mile run on my birthday run.
I am feeling great so far. Knock on wood, ouch!!!!!!! No aches nor pains.
The weather has cooled down considerable. It was in the high 70 to low 80's for a few days last week and now it is in the 50'. Oh well that is weather in the Northwest!!!

"Rain drops keep falling on my head"........... Yes it was a very rainy day today. At mile 12, 13 and 14 it rained cats and dogs. I had to kick them out of the way as I ran. :)
I didn't mean to put this yellow headed blackbird here but here it will stay. I was thinking that with all the rain it will be good to see blue skies again!!! I took this picture last year. He hasn't shown up this year.
Well, not quite, but it did rain hard. It was sprinkling at 7:00 am when we started.
Phil ran with me to about mile two then went off on his own run. I ran on part of the Discovery Trail that was new to me. It was a good section to run on. Out of the traffic and secluded and quiet. A lot of Rhody's blooming along the road and trail this morning.
I walked a lot on the last 3 miles of the 18 mile run. Cold and wet.
Meet Philip at the Long House in Blyn at 11:00 am. I waited in the Long House for my ride and the clerk gave me a cup of coffee. I think she thought that I was homeless. No, I told her my son was going to pick me up and that I couldn't buy anything until he came with some money. SOOOO, she said, "You don't need any money, come over to the coffee stand and I will give you a cup of hot coffee for free!" God takes care of the simple little ones. :)
It was a good training run. I came home to a cold bath for my aches and pains and then glorious hot water! Life is GOOD!
Shirley is a very good wife.
Let's see, I ran 7.47 miles on Sunday, 2 miles on Monday, 6 miles on Tuesday and 18 miles today.
Total so far in the last 4 days=33.47 miles. Excellent training so far for my 80 mile run and also for the marathon on June 3.

The three Milliman's ran the 12k (7.47 miles)Rhody Run today. It was raining when we started the race but stopped at about 1 and 1/2 miles.
Phil's time was 74 minutes= 10 minutes per mile pace.
Rosaura's time was 1 hr and 46 minutes= 14 minutes and 13 seconds per mile pace.
Chuck's time was 81 minutes=11 minutes and 6 seconds per mile pace.
It was a very hilly course. A lot of down hills which made for a faster pace.
I ran 2 miles on Friday last week and then did not run on Saturday. My right hip has been bothering me lately and I put the tens unit on it Saturday evening and it helped. I had just a little pain when I started but then it stopped hurting when I warmed up. Thank God.
Also Saturday I spent a wonderful day weeding and cleaning in our yard. Shirley said that it was about time. Hey, I haven't been in the dog house lately. I am going to have to check up on my behavior.
The pictures are the ad for the Rhody Run and some unkown runner who might be out there running forever.
This is the start of the run.
The pictures that I copied are from last years run.
UP AT 7:00 AM IN THE MORNING??????? MAYBE 2 MILES???????????

I ran my 15.6 mile run on Monday. It was a very hot day. It took me 3 hours and 25 minutes. HOT, HOT. But I finished the run. I had an issue with my right hip joint. It hurt a lot on my last five miles. It was very sore on my Tuesday run also. Hard to get started. Ran only 2 mile. I am counting it as an easy day.
In the afternoon I drove to Snohomish to Brion and Melissa's home so that I could go with the three Grand Daughters to their school. We had a great time. I came home today. Great kids and so willing and eager to learn. GREAT!!!!!
I am slowing down this week for my Sunday Rhody 12K in Port Townsend.

May 13, Sunday 2012 MOTHERS DAY
Happy Mothers Day to the appropriate ones:)
I ran 10 miles Friday in the morning. It was an out and back course that went by the old school house at what used to be and I guess it still is Dungenness. Good training run. Phil ran two miles out with me and then went back and ran with Rosaura.
Then Saturday I ran five miles on the first five miles of the Discovery Trail Marathon Route. Still moving along in my training for the long run in November.
I am running the Rhody 12K Run next Sunday the 20th in Port Townsend. It is another hilly course. It doesn't compare with the hills on the courses that Jason runs in the Flagstaff area but they are still hills. And I complain about them all the time. Before and after the run!!!!!! Just remember that I am old!!!!
I could not resist sending this picture. I thought that I was on of the racoons trying to get out of the swamp water the other morning.. Just in my dreams.
Tomorrow morning I am going to run 15 miles. I am cutting back on my training for the Rhody Run and then the following week back to about a 35-40 miles a week, two weeks before the Discovery Marathon. Does that make sense???? Hmmmmm.... it does to me. :)

I ran and walked for 3 hours today. Windy, Windy!!!!!! I had a hard time getting started. It was 9:00 am when I finally got started. Another one of those days.
I have modified my schedule to fit in with the North Olympic Trail Marathon on June 6. The route for this marathon is from Sequim to Port Angeles on an old railroad bed. It is a good run with rolling hills at mile 17 to mile 21 then flat from 21 to the end.
I will be running 2, twenty mile runs in the next couple of weeks and then a little less mileage for the week of the June 6 marathon.
Our little Pomeranian Maggie is sick. She has not gone to the doctor yet but if she is not better tomorrow I will take her to see what is wrong. She is listless and shakes.
Shirley said that Maggie also has a fever. I called the Vet today and she said to wait a little while and see how she does later in the day. Maggie is eating tonight and seems to be doing a little better.
The picture below is from the past. Jesse Owens with Kim and Jason and Melissa Henrie. I believe that this was taken at the (Arco Jesse Owens Games in 1977*) at Civic Field at Bellingham, Washington. I don't know what year it was taken.
*I had the wrong meet. I said it was a Hershey Meet. This is the correction.

I ran the Boomsday Race last Sunday, May 6. My time was 1 hour and 26 minutes-59 seconds.
Alright, 1 hour and 27 minutes. Picky, picky!!!
The temperature at our start, 9:45 am was 46 degrees. The temperature at the finish was in the high 60's. Phil ran with me and Rosaura walked this year. Her time was 2 hours and 5 minutes. She has just started to walk and jog again after several years of not exercising.
There were 53,000 runners this year.
At the start of the race for our wave, Orange, we walked for a long ways and then we finally could start jogging. Our first mile time was 12:35. Then the crowd started to thin out by then so I could pick up my pace.
I started to make up time as we passed the 3 mile mark. I poured water on just my head at every water aid station. I started doing this when I read an article several years ago about how to combat heat while running. The article stated that it is just as important to cool off the torso as it was to drink water. I have been doing the cooling down practice in my running for about 3 years now and I find out that it does help me. The only problem I have encountered with this at the aid stations is that sometimes the aid personal want to douse my whole body with cold water!!! So, I just yell out, "Just my head', and get plenty of help for that especially on really hot days!!!!
I ran my last 2.47 miles in 10 minutes and 30 seconds per mile. My pace per mile for the run was 11 minutes and 40 seconds.
I was happy with that pace. :)
After the run Phil bought a humugous bowl of curly fries and cheese. The fries were cut with a device that one of the cooks made. It was a small slicer that was driven by a shaft that was hooked to a electric drill motor. One large potato sliced in about 5 seconds. Great invention.
Anyway the potatoes were delicious!!!! Phil was kind enough to share them with me.
It was a great trip.
Below are some pictures that I captured of the Bloomsday Race.
This one is a picture of all of the people who have run in all of the Bloomsday Races through 2011. I believe there is over one hundred runners! 35 years.
This years run was the 36th.

All in all in was a very good trip and run for me. We left Sequim at noon on Thursday May 3rd and arrived home Sunday May 6 at 10:40 pm.
I was up at 7:00 am on Monday and Phil and I ran 2 miles and then today we ran 4 miles at 7:00 am.
WOW, I haven't done that kind of training for a long time.
A 20 mile training run tomorrow. :)

This is my final post until next Monday, May 7. Then I will let the world know how I did on my Bloomsday Run. The Kenyons will run the 12K in about 34 to 36 minutes. I will be very happy with 1 hour and 20 minutes. I am going to Spokane with Phil and Rosaura on Thursday about noon. We will go to Kettle Falls, WA to get some clothes that Phil left at the Shoemakers when he visited them about a month ago. Then Friday we will drive to Cheney and stay there with Laura and Les until Sunday morning and then up early Sunday morning for the race. We will pick up our packets in Spokane on Saturday, probably in the early afternoon. I hope the weather is not too hot. I don't mind the cold as much as I do the heat. We will see, we will see.
